Anxiety
Anxiety is common and debilitating, however, it is also very treatable. I have expertise on a variety of evidence-based techniques to help you better understand these symptoms and better cope with them. In time, anxiety will decrease and no longer stand in the way of living the life you want.
Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
I specialize in the treatment of children's behavior problems, including ADHD and ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder). I have a specific focus on how parents and teachers can maintain positive relationships with children while correcting and shaping their behaviors. I have also done extensive research on how children make friends, especially those who appear different to peers. Many children with behavior problems have social difficulties, like being bullied or left out. I can help parents better understand how they can better support their child's social development.
Personality Disorders
I specialize in Dialectical Behavior Therapy which is really helpful for people struggling with intense emotions and identity issues. I have a large toolbox of skills that I can introduce, and together, we will find the ones that work best for you.
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Therapy is not only about feeling better, but also about our natural desire to know ourselves and where we come from. Family and early childhood experiences can be central in shaping our perceptions and beliefs. By developing insight into these connections, we can better understand why we are the way we are, which opens the door for us to choose how we want to be in the future.
Relationship Issues
We all have the desire to feel understood by and connected to others. Oftentimes, our early relationships teach us how people relate to one another. Therapy can help us explore these powerful learning experiences and how they impact our relationships today.
Substance Abuse
An important question is what role does the substance play in your life - what is its function? Substance issues do not occur in a vacuum, usually they fulfill an important need which itself is healthy (for example, a need to feel comfortable around others or a desire to cope with stress). Good understanding of this as well as our motivations to change will then help us curb our substance use behaviors.
